County commissioners pressed staff on a budget detail tied to the insect-control program. A commissioner asked why the budget shows one fewer employee next year while the salary line increases by about $17,000. A staff member said the increase could reflect planned salary adjustments such as cost-of-living adjustments and a reduction in part-time hours, and the court agreed to follow up: "We can review that with Janice. She's out this week, but next week we can review that." The court did not adopt any change to the renewal pending that clarification.
A motion to approve the renewal was seconded and carried by roll call. Commissioners recorded their votes as "aye." The county judge was authorized to sign the renewal documents on behalf of the county.
The county did not provide a detailed, line-by-line explanation of the $17,000 variance at the meeting; commissioners directed staff to return with a clarification. That follow-up will determine whether the increase reflects benefit or salary schedule changes, reduced part-time usage, or another budget adjustment.
Votes at the meeting were recorded orally by commissioner roll call and the motion passed.
Looking ahead, staff indicated they would review the insect-control budget lines with Janice and report back to the commissioners at a subsequent meeting.
