The Caldwell County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 22 to release $71,789.62 in delinquent real and personal property taxes from 2015 that county staff said are no longer collectible under state law.
Tax Administrator Josh Engel told the board that, under North Carolina General Statute 105-378(a), taxes more than 10 years delinquent are no longer collectible through enforced collections. Engel said the total outstanding for February 2015 was $71,789.62 and requested that the board authorize release of those accounts.
A commissioner moved to accept the tax administrator's recommendation. The motion was approved on a voice vote; the transcript records "aye" and no numerical roll call.
Engel thanked the board following the vote.
