The presenter told the council the department for years used third-party maintenance but believes manufacturer-trained technicians using Stryker parts will better serve both older and newer stretchers. The presenter added that stretchers are among the most-used and critical pieces of ambulance equipment: “If our stretcher doesn’t work, an ambulance is out of service,” the presenter said.
Motion to approve the quote was made by Commissioner McDowell and seconded by Commissioner Stackhouse. Roll call recorded affirmative votes and the mayor announced the motion carried 5–0.
Council members agreed the maintenance plan is time-sensitive and the director had indicated the FY26 budget includes the line item for EMS equipment. The contract allows the city to maintain ambulance readiness by ensuring trained manufacturer technicians perform repairs and annual maintenance.
