Evansville board approves contractor licenses, leaves several approvals pending corrected recommendation letters

The Evansville City Board of Examiners of Construction and Roofing on an administrative meeting approved a series of contractor and specialty licenses and accepted amended minutes from its prior session.
Board members approved multiple applicants across residential, commercial and specialty trades and moved to conditionally approve several others pending corrected letters of recommendation or required notary stamps. “We have a quorum to carry on,” board member Pete Wenzler said at the start of the review.
Most approvals were routine voice votes. Applicants approved without conditions included Michael L. Gudorf (specialty), Ryan Hoey (commercial), Jason Holt (residential), Jason Vogel (residential), Matthew Paul Madison (residential), Thomas I. Mosby (glass and glazing), Paul M. Parker (fire sprinkler and fire alarm), Drew Benjamin Phoebus (residential), Steve Reals (fire alarm), Andrew T. Rowe (contractor), Lonnie D. Smith (Unlimited Roofing), Russ Snyder (residential) and others listed on the meeting roster.
Several applications were approved only after the board recorded missing or unclear documentation and instructed staff to obtain corrected materials. Those approvals were conditioned on submission of explicitly worded letters of recommendation and/or notarized recommendation letters. The board identified these cases by applicant name during the roll call review: Giovanni Alonzo (pending two corrected recommendation letters), Zachary Buckner (pending correction to first letter), Jacob Gull Gough (special subcontractor; pending properly notarized letters and explicit recommendation language), Jeremy Robinson (pending correction to the second recommendation letter), and James Smith (pending additional corrected letters). For some applicants the board recorded that certain letters lacked an explicit statement of recommendation even when titled “letter of recommendation.”
The board also approved amended recommendation letters and the minutes from the previous meeting. Motions to approve were made and seconded on the record; approvals were recorded by voice vote.
The board set a follow-up expectation that staff (identified in the meeting as Kat) will collect corrected letters or notary stamps before issuing final licenses to the applicants whose approvals were conditioned.
Smaller procedural items recorded at the session included routine verification of documents and notation of when recommendation letters contained handwritten markings or partial notary information. The board adjourned and scheduled its next meeting for July 23, 2025, at 3:30 p.m.
Ending: The approvals and conditional approvals represent routine licensure oversight by the board; applicants granted conditional approval will not receive final license issuance until staff confirms the corrected recommendation letters and notarizations requested by the board.
