Parks department explains two finishing change orders for Next Level Trails Phase 1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Board of Parks Commissioners approved two change orders intended to complete Phase 1 of the Next Level Trails project at its July 16 meeting.
Paul Bausman, deputy director of Evansville Parks and Recreation, told the board the project is wrapping up and staff expect these to be the last change orders for this phase. He said Change Order No. 3, for $7,977.10, covers undercutting and additional stone where soils were unsuitable so the trail will be long lasting in that stretch.
Bausman said Change Order No. 4, for $66,887, covers work that is trail‑adjacent rather than trail surfacing: investigation found that existing electrical feeding the trail lighting required a transformer, panel board, contactors, enclosures and supports to be upgraded so the trail lighting — and other park lighting — can be energized and operate safely. He described this as a larger change order and said department funding for the work will come from the park infrastructure capital-improvement program (CIP).
The board approved both change orders by voice vote. Bausman said both items bring the first phase toward final completion and align with the department's safety goals.
