Commissioners said the language in the re‑adoptions mirrored the county’s 2021 policies and represented reaffirmation rather than substantive policy change.
County staff explained the Title VI and ADA readoptions are standard housekeeping to maintain compliance with federal assurances. “The language line contract is for people with disabilities,” Jill said during discussion, noting the service would be used on an as‑needed basis for non‑English‑speaking residents and callers.
Commissioners then approved a contract with Language Line Services for interpretation and accessibility support and moved an additional appropriation of $250 into the ADA/language services budget for 2025. Staff noted Spanish interpretation is likely the most common use and that other languages would be available through the vendor on demand. The board approved the readoption resolutions, the Language Line contract, and the $250 appropriation on voice votes.
Commissioners also discussed budgeting for ongoing language and ADA services and suggested departments that regularly interact with the public (for example, HR, the health department and the sheriff’s office) should plan for usage and any needed line items in their departmental budgets.
