Souderton board renews contract with Fox Rothschild amid public criticism over past ban letters

During public comment, Stephanie Jamieson, who identified herself as president of Souderton Area for All but spoke in a personal capacity, urged the board not to renew the contract, calling the law firm's work "sub par" and criticizing three letters the firm sent on behalf of the district that barred people from district property. Jamieson said two of the letters were identical and contained factual errors and that after the ACLU contacted the district, the letters were later rescinded and the ACLU sued.
"This sloppy work should be reason enough to fire Fox Rothschild," Jamieson told the board and encouraged the public to read the letters posted online.
Souderton resident Rosemary Butekofer addressed the board later and said solicitor contracts are public records under Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law and urged the board to publish contract details so taxpayers can see fee structures, retainers and caps. "When will this information be provided, which the public is entitled to?" she asked.
A board member moved to consider item 6.22 separately from the consent agenda and then made a motion to approve the Fox Rothschild contract; the board approved the motion. The meeting record shows the contract vote occurred after a separate motion to remove the item from the consent list. The item passed on the separate vote.
