Allen described the session as “wild” but said lawmakers ultimately passed a budget that largely preserved county program aid and avoided the most severe proposed reductions. He said funding was approved to address the Statewide Automated Services system (SSIS) technology that counties use, which he characterized as outdated and cumbersome. Allen said bonding activity was more limited this session but focused on roads, bridges, flood mitigation and wastewater and water system upgrades; he said he expects bonding to be a priority in the next short session.
Allen thanked Rice County staff and the sheriff for communications and support during recent events and said he will continue to be accessible to county officials.
