Board renews JPA with Homeland Security Region 1 for mutual aid and equipment insurance

Rice County approved an updated joint powers agreement (JPA) with Homeland Security Region 1 to clarify language around equipment purchases and allow the region to obtain insurance through the Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust (MCIT).
Joe from the Sheriff’s Office described Region 1 as a coalition that includes the city of Rochester, Prairie Island Indian Community and 16 counties. He told the board the JPA dates to 2016 and the update clarifies ownership and insurance for equipment purchased and used by the region, and that the region provides training and equipment support for planned events and disasters. “Benefits include the camera trailer that we've used during the Rice County Fair and Safe Summer Kickoff, training for emergency managements, and mutual aid partnerships,” Joe said.
Annual dues remain $1,000. Commissioners moved and seconded approval; the motion carried by voice vote.
Motion: approve updated JPA with Homeland Security Region 1; motion carried.
