County sets public hearing Aug. 26 to consider petition to name an unnamed lake; petitioner must post $750 escrow

Morrison County land services staff asked the board to order a public hearing on a petition filed by a resident to name an unnamed lake. Amy Kowalsic, land services director, told the board state statute requires a public notice process that includes mailing notices to adjacent landowners and three publications in local papers.
The board set a tentative public hearing for Aug. 26 following the regular board meeting and directed staff to hold the hearing at 10 a.m., subject to receipt of a $750 escrow from the petitioner to cover notice and publication costs. Kowalsic said notices must be published three weeks prior and the hearing cannot be scheduled until staff receives the escrow to assure timely mailings and newspaper notices.
Motion and vote: Commissioner Winter moved to set the public hearing and Commissioner Moran seconded; the board approved the order by voice vote and later confirmed the motion was carried. County staff stressed that if the escrow is not received in time staff will have to reschedule the hearing and return to the board to set a new date and time.
