Rice County commissioners approved a $12,390 expenditure from the recorder’s compliance fund to purchase a countywide mosaic image from EagleView that will combine recently captured 3‑inch and 6‑inch aerial imagery for use in the county’s GIS tools.
Josh from the Assessor’s Office said the county already ordered aerial flights at 6‑inch resolution for most areas and 3‑inch resolution for larger cities; EagleView provided individual oblique and ortho photographs through a web service, and the additional $12,390 will deliver the mosaic imagery that makes the county‑wide orthophoto usable in GIS software and on the Beacon website. “Once we get that mosaic image, we’ll push it out to the Beacon website,” Josh said.
Commissioners asked about the flight frequency and public access. Josh said flights occur about every two years and that the images are publicly accessible on Beacon; he said the site receives close to one million hits per year. Commissioner discussion endorsed the purchase as a good investment for departments and the public.
Motion: approval of the EagleView mosaic image purchase for $12,390 from the recorder’s compliance fund. Motion carried.
