Hubbard County highway staff briefed the board on storm-related clearing and summer construction projects and received approval to accelerate a planned Trimble R980 TSC7 controller purchase for the survey department.
Staff explained the Trimble controller purchase was in the next year's capital plan but can be funded from an account that Natural Resources holds for survey work; they noted their existing supplier (Frontier Precision) provided the only quote. A commissioner moved to approve accelerating the purchase and the motion carried.
Storm response and maintenance updates: highway staff said county crews cleared main roads by Saturday night after the storm and are clearing right-of-way debris; debris is being placed in a piling station and some brush is being pushed back into undeveloped land or forested areas. Staff estimated right-of-way clearance would take about another week and said some secondary trails still require clearing.
Construction projects and timelines reported: - Casa 45: encapsulation/rehab project completed June 20 and detour in place; estimated work into August. - Casa 1: detour planned to begin July 7 with an estimated October completion. - 7-and-40 roundabout: detour in place and work started, estimated completion August. - Casa 13 (City of Nevis): estimated August start and about six weeks of activity. - LED stop-sign project: installation of roughly 38 LED-enhanced stop signs countywide to begin the following week.
Traffic management notes: for some projects contractors were asked to keep a lane open or propose detours; for others, trenching and short-term closures will be coordinated so businesses and residents retain access.
What the board approved (actions): purchase of Trimble R980 TSC7 controller accelerated from next year's budget using existing survey funds and shared use with highway projects; motion carried.
