The Canfield Local School District Board of Education on Aug. 13 approved a series of routine and formal actions, including minutes, financial reports, personnel moves, collective-bargaining ratifications and field-trip requests. Most motions passed unanimously; one hiring vote was 3–1.
The board approved the minutes of its July 9 regular meeting, accepted the treasurer’s year-end cash summary and investment reports, and approved transfers that included $4,000,000 to the 070 capital projects fund and $550,000 to the permanent-improvement fund to cover high‑school paving.
Personnel actions approved included multiple resignations and hires across licensed and classified staff and extracurricular positions, as presented in the meeting exhibits. A consolidated motion to approve the personnel items passed unanimously (roll call: Campbell: Yes; DeCaprio: Yes; DeMilo: Yes; Atway: Yes).
The board voted 3–1 to approve hiring Matt Bratcher as the CH Campbell head custodian (effective 08/01/2025) on $21 per hour. Roll-call votes were: Campbell — Yes; DeCaprio — Yes; DeMilo — No; Atway — Yes.
Other approvals included: - An amended resolution 1-2026 declaring transportation "impractical" for listed students (approved unanimously). - Out-of-state overnight field-trip requests for girls varsity golf to West Middlesex, Pa., and Erie, Pa. (approved unanimously). - Ratification of a contract with Teamsters Local 377 covering July 2025 through June 30, 2028 (approved unanimously). - Ratification of a contract with the Canfield School Bus Driver Association (OEA/NEA) for Sept. 1, 2025 to Aug. 31, 2028 (approved unanimously). - Approval of grant program applications for fiscal year 2026 (approved unanimously). - Acceptance of cash and in-kind donations totaling $18,215.42 as listed in exhibit 8 (approved unanimously).
Treasurer Patty highlighted a few payments and outstanding purchase orders during the financial report: Boke and Sons — $70,000 (roof work), City of Canfield — $72,000 (share of SRO funding), and an outstanding installment with Huntington Bank for the scoreboard purchase. "All the state and federal grants were closed out," Patty said when summarizing the year-end report.
No board action was taken on the superintendent’s informational updates beyond accepting the reports and motions on consent and business-docket items.
