School board names FSBA representatives, reappoints Value Adjustment Board reps, approves travel and backs 250th-anniversary partnership

The Okaloosa County School Board approved several governance items by unanimous vote, including FSBA representation, Value Adjustment Board appointments, a superintendent travel request and a district partnership with a regional 250th-anniversary celebration.

Board member Tim Bryant was nominated and appointed to serve as the district’s advocacy representative to the Florida School Boards Association, with Parker Destin named as alternate. The motions were moved and seconded and carried 5 to 0.

The board also approved appointments to the Okaloosa County Value Adjustment Board, recommending Linda Vanczyk as the board representative and Parker Destin as alternate. A separate motion affirmed Mike Carroll’s continued service as the business representative on that board; that motion also passed 5 to 0. The district attorney and board discussion indicated these were routine appointments.

A travel request for federal advocacy work in Washington, D.C., related to the superintendent’s role with the Florida School Boards Association (past president duties) was moved, discussed briefly as previously funded by FSBA for in-state travel, and approved 5 to 0. Board members noted that most of the superintendent’s FSBA travel has been paid by the association and that out-of-state travel requires board approval.

Board member Parker Destin sought and received board approval for the district to be a partner in a regional 250th-anniversary historic celebration. The superintendent indicated no district funds would be committed at this time; the motion to authorize participation was moved and seconded and approved 5 to 0.
