Hardee board hires PBK, selects Wiseman Construction for replacement of Hardy Senior High

The Hardee County School Board on July 10 approved an agreement with PBK for architectural services for district facility projects including the replacement of Hardy Senior High School and selected Wiseman Construction as construction manager for the new Hardy Senior High School, votes that the board said move the project to the next phase.
The approvals followed presentations from district staff and the committee that screened finalists and public remarks by the selected construction manager. The board and speakers emphasized early contractor involvement, local subcontractor hiring where possible, and prior successful work on similar projects.
The board voted unanimously to approve the PBK architectural services agreement after a brief discussion clarifying that the contract covers the high school and that any other projects would follow the same procurement process. "We're truly excited about having PBK," Superintendent Bennett said, adding that the district had received positive feedback from other districts about the firm.
On the construction manager selection, the board approved the committee recommendation of Wiseman Construction. John Wiseman of JP Wiseman Construction told the board his firm and its partner, Culpeper Construction, have experience on similar projects and that the team will try to hire local labor when feasible: "We're gonna try to be very good stewards of superintendent Bennett's time and the team's time...and also hire local labor where we can." Eddie Dixon of Culpeper Construction, introduced by Wiseman, said his experience as a former superintendent helps the company coordinate between construction and schools.
Board members noted the size of the selection committee and expressed appreciation for the committee's work. Committee members named during the meeting included Rob Kroll, Chad Douglas, Travis Tubbs, Doug Stevens, Miss Cornell and Dr. Albritton.
The board also approved related spot surveys from the Florida Department of Education for Bowling Green Elementary School and Hardy Senior High School that inform capital outlay classifications. Those routine approvals were presented without extended discussion.
Votes at the meeting were recorded with Dr. Sharp, Andrew Smith, Miss Dasher, Miss Cornell and Chairman Galyard registering aye on each motion. No recorded no votes or abstentions were made on these items.
The project will proceed to design and preconstruction phases under the selected firms; board members and the construction manager said further steps will include design coordination, budgeting and community engagement as the district moves toward construction.
