Lauderhill on June 30 introduced Kevin Granville, a 31-year law enforcement veteran and former Broward Sheriff’s Office major, as the city’s new deputy police chief.
Chief Stanley and City Manager Kenny Hobbs described Granville’s hiring as part of a broader push toward community engagement and proactive policing. Granville — who said he had visited local businesses and leaders before starting his first day — said he plans to focus on community partnerships and youth programming, citing his prior district leadership experience.
The commission also heard a staff update on a citywide public-safety strategic plan. Hobbs said department directors have been working with staff and that the plan will be integrated into the manager’s proposed budget presentation on July 15. Don (Don Giancoli), a member of the finance team, is slated to present a more extensive strategic-plan overview during that budget session; staff then expect one-on-one follow-ups with commissioners, a draft presentation in September and a final workshop in October.
Hobbs and Mayor Denise Grant both emphasized that public safety is cross-departmental and that parks, public works, utilities and other departments will contribute action items. The chief and staff described pilot projects including a mobile advocacy response unit for domestic violence and trauma-informed approaches in community programming.
Ending
Granville, who begins work immediately, said he looks forward to meeting residents and department staff; the commission will review the strategic-plan updates as part of the July 15 budget presentation and subsequent workshops before adopting a final plan.
