The City Commission of Sunrise unanimously approved several public-safety, budgetary and land-use items on Tuesday, including the purchase of 19 outdoor automated external defibrillators (AEDs) with remote monitoring, an amended interlocal agreement to receive a share of the Broward County transportation system surtax, and a suite of ordinance and code amendments.

- Code and ordinance measures (items 12A–F and related ordinances): The commission approved a group of land-development code amendments, including changes to site-plan procedures for small sites (2 acres or less), revisions to planned unit development minimum tract sizes and submission requirements for single-phase projects, and second readings/amendments to retirement and pension-related code sections including selection composition and investment authority. All items passed on the motions taken at the meeting (votes recorded 5-0).
- Budget amendment and other housekeeping (Item 4D, etc.): The commission approved a budget amendment to the FY2024–25 general fund and other routine administrative items; staff noted the city has not finalized the overall fiscal year budget and that some items remain subject to the final budget process.
City staff, including Fire Chief John K. McNamara and Finance Director Susan Neighbors, addressed operational questions about AED placement, permitting and monitoring and committed to expedite permitting and provide the commission with a deployment schedule. For the surtax ILA, City Manager Mark Lebowski summarized the agreement's purpose (distribution of county surtax returns to municipalities) and noted the ILA is separate from the county's regional light-rail/BRT routing decisions; commissioners asked staff to engage regional partners and the Broward Workshop to press for Sunrise priorities.
