Lavelle said the current federal environment—“bills before us” and rollbacks of protections—means the city and the commission will need to “double down” on local measures. Spencer agreed and said “now is not the time to play softball” and pledged to be “1000% sure of the direction” she’d help the commission take.
The council took no further substantive debate at the pre-agenda interview; the vote advancing the nomination occurred later through the council’s standard resolution process. The nomination will be recorded in the council’s formal minutes and appears on the public docket.
