Montebello to open Henry Acuna Park dog park July 19; open hours set and regional visitors welcome

The department said the dog park was identified through the city’s parks needs assessment and master plan, and that the site selection and construction involved outreach and delay before completion. "The dog park finally opens to the community this Saturday, 07/19/2025," the staff member said.
When asked whether nonresidents may use the park, the staff member said the amenity is intended to serve Montebello’s 63,000 residents but is open regionally: "There's no way we're gonna check IDs at the door, so everybody's welcome to bring their dogs." The department said it will operate the dog park on the posted hours for the immediate season.
Staff invited the commission and the public to the opening and described the dog park as one of several amenities identified in the master plan — along with pickleball courts and other features — intended to meet community needs. The commission raised no other questions about the dog park beyond hours and access.
The department did not specify ongoing operational costs or enforcement staffing for the dog park during the meeting. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide follow-up information to the commission or public if additional operational details are finalized.
