District implements redesign of student services to increase in-home-school access for students with special needs

Superintendent Jared and student-services leaders updated the board on a fast-moving redesign of the districts student services structure intended to provide greater access to general education in home schools. Staff said the change was implemented quickly and will allow about 73 students who had been placed in off-site programs to attend their home schools and family siblings.
The redesign retains two specialized programs at Firgrove: the Profound DLC (district program) and a complex needs classroom operated with county support for medically fragile students. Staff emphasized that the model seeks to increase core instruction access while preserving specialized supports where appropriate.
Officials acknowledged the shift requires extensive staff adjustments and that the model will take time to fully dial in. Leadership described one-on-one outreach to families and said most parents welcomed the change, though a small number have asked to remain in existing placements and district staff are working through those cases individually.
Superintendent Jared said the district will monitor outcomes and expects to report early indicators of impact across the coming year. The board received the update and asked staff to follow up with periodic reports on implementation and student outcomes.
