The College Station ISD board on July 15 approved additional funding for sanitary sewer repairs at A&M Consolidated High School after contractors discovered an unexpected condition under the building.
Facilities staff said the original estimate for the repair was $40,170.12. When contractors (Ed Phillips Plumbing) tunneled under the building they found the sanitary line was gravity-fed toward the building rather than away from it. That required additional tunneling and reconnection to establish proper gravity flow away from the building. The added work increased the project by $38,373.88, and staff included an extra $10,000 contingency, bringing the recommended total to $88,544. Staff said the costs will be covered by the 2023 bond deferred maintenance funds.
A trustee stated they must recuse because Ed Phillips is a client; the record shows one recusal/abstention. The motion passed with a tally recorded as 5-0 and one abstention.
Board members asked about the scope and contingency. Staff said if the contingency is unused those funds would return to the district.
The board directed staff to proceed with the additional work; facilities staff will report back as repairs progress.
