JPS approves IdentiMetrics for secondary attendance tracking, district to roll out in stages

Faith Strong, standing in for Chief Information/Student Information official Mr. Johnson, presented the district's recommendation to approve IdentiMetrics for secondary attendance tracking and the board approved the item.
Strong said the platform is an add-on that extends capabilities beyond PowerSchool rather than duplicating them. "It is a plug in which extends our efforts to pull additional data to address our early warning approach for schools to build interventions around student attendance," she said, explaining that students would use ID badges for entry and exit and that the system would provide daily data to school leaders.
Administrators cautioned that IdentiMetrics will help manage general absenteeism but is not a substitute for period-by-period attendance to identify skipping; teachers will still need to mark attendance for each class period. The presenter said the initial rollout will focus on secondary schools, with a goal of eventual districtwide ID use.
Board members raised integration questions about ParentSquare and direct parent notifications. Administration said PowerSchool remains the student information system for elementary attendance and that district-issued devices and staff processes will be used as the district scales the system. The board approved the information/action item by voice vote; the motion to approve was moved by Mitch and seconded by Frank and recorded as approved with no nays.
Implementation notes included training, staged rollout and consideration of how IdentiMetrics data might be used to support bus, extracurricular and security use cases over time.
