The Cedar City Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend renaming the Industrial Road Trail the Fort Cedar Railroad Trail.
Anthony Pearson of the Cedar City Parks Department told the commission the trail along Industrial Road is complete and the city intends to commemorate the railroad history, saying the city is “gonna try and move [the Fort Cedar Memorial] across the street along that trail.” Pearson said there is a plan to place an old caboose along the trail as a historical feature.
Commissioner Jennifer moved to recommend the name change; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote with no opposition recorded. Commissioners praised the effort to commemorate local history and noted maintenance and landscaping work is ongoing.
The recommendation will be forwarded according to the city's naming procedures.
