Veterans, 9-1-1 and solid-waste staff give monthly reports; veterans officer recorded 38 contacts in June

Grimes County received routine monthly reports July 16 from the Veterans Service Officer and the 9-1-1/GIS and environmental teams.
Veterans Service Officer Jay Lafferty reported 38 contacts in June (27 by phone, 11 in office), one new benefits claim filed and ongoing outreach including literature from the VA counseling program in Houston. Lafferty said veteran contacts typically dip during July and August because of vacations and heat, but he said casework continues.
Kat Lee, who handles 9-1-1 addressing, GIS and environmental duties, reported solid-waste site maintenance (sign replacements, gate repairs), 25 new environmental permits, 42 inspections and updates to maintenance-contract entries. Lee said the office processed 52 new addresses and distributed 58 addresses to citizens for verification; she also reported work in responding to two subdivision extensions (White Wing/Dove Crossing and High Meadows). Lee said the office will migrate from ArcMap to ArcPro on Aug. 1 and that she had attended vendor training.
Lee said the move to the annex is targeted for early August (first week of August) and that staff are boxing files, estimating roughly 8,000 file folders in records to move. Road and Bridge and facilities staff are addressing drainage issues at the sign shop.
Ending: Officials advised residents to prepare for possible Gulf storms this week but said no county burn ban action was needed at this time.
