LCRA awards Leander $100,000 for advanced metering customer portal

The Lower Colorado River Authority on Thursday presented the city of Leander a $100,000 grant to support the customer-portal portion of the city’s advanced metering infrastructure, or AMI, deployment.
Ellison, Leander’s executive director of public works, introduced Jack Jones from LCRA, who delivered the grant check and described the agency’s conservation cost-share program. The funds are earmarked for the AMI customer portal to help customers see hour-by-hour water usage and detect leaks.
“Advanced Metering Infrastructure. So this is, you get your water usage data in real time in hour increments,” Ellison explained during the presentation. The portal is intended to help customers track consumption and support the city’s broader water-conservation messaging.
Jones and city staff said the funds are a cost-share grant and will be applied specifically to the customer-portal elements of the AMI rollout. City officials invited a photo with the LCRA representatives following the presentation.
The council did not take additional action on the grant during the meeting; the presentation was in the recognitions and proclamations portion of the agenda.
