Buckfield Select Board approves $3,250 in social services appropriations for FY2024–25

The Buckfield Select Board on June 25 approved the town’s social services appropriation plan for fiscal year 2024–25, directing $3,250 in total to local and regional nonprofit providers that requested municipal support.
Town Manager Azalea Cormier presented the requests, saying the town had received nine submissions this year including Arcam, Seniors Plus, Meals on Wheels, Community Concepts, Helping Hearts, Lake Stewards of Maine, Life Flight of Maine, the Cancer Resource Center of Maine, and Safe Voices. Cormier told the board, “These are all the requests that we got for this fiscal year,” and provided the board with a packet showing last year’s amounts for comparison.
Board members discussed how to distribute the limited funds and reviewed last year’s appropriations. The board debated reducing Life Flight’s allocation because of its larger overall budget and redirecting funds to smaller, locally focused organizations. After discussion, a motion to approve the outlined social services budget for 2024–25 passed. Members specified the total appropriation and asked staff to implement the allocations as shown in the meeting packet.
The vote approved the appropriation as outlined; the board did not alter the total amount during the public meeting. The town manager said staff would proceed with issuing payments according to the approved plan.
