Commissioners adopt resolution establishing absentee and UOCAVA ballot boards for 2025 election

The Nicollet County Board of Commissioners on the consent agenda approved a resolution to establish an absentee ballot board and a county UOCAVA ballot board to handle absentee and overseas/military ballots for the Nov. 4, 2025, election.
Public services staff explained that Minnesota election law requires the governing body responsible for accepting and rejecting absentee ballots to establish a ballot board. The county UOCAVA (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act) ballot board reviews absentee ballots submitted by voters living overseas or in active military service. Staff said either trained election judges or trained deputy county auditors may serve on those boards, and that public services will staff them with impartial, trained personnel.
The resolution included language authorizing county staff to implement and appoint members to the boards as permitted under Minnesota election law. The board moved and seconded the resolution; commissioners answered in the affirmative on a roll call and the motion passed.
Staff asked that the board adopt the resolution as presented in the meeting packet; no additional amendments were requested.
