The Northville Public Schools Board of Education approved a construction change order totaling $42,914 for targeted roof work at Meads Mill during its July meeting.
Treasurer Stewart presented the motion, which Secretary Meyer supported. District staff explained the work covers a small section of roof that will be significantly impacted by an ongoing addition; staff said the section had been scheduled for a future roofing project but district and construction leaders elected to complete it while the addition work is underway to avoid later disruption. A district staff member described the change as a deliberate, planned decision rather than an unanticipated surprise.
Board members said the work makes sense while contractors are on site and praised staff for bringing the change order forward rather than delaying the work. The motion passed on a voice vote. Staff indicated a longer update on roofing and bond/sinking-fund projects would be provided this fall, and that two large roof areas at Meads remain for later consideration.
The change order was referenced in the district’s 07/11/2025 construction memo included in the meeting packet. District staff said the work will be coordinated with the current addition and that the facilities team expects more construction-related change orders as the larger project continues.
