The Highland City Council approved purchase of three 2025 Ford F-250 crew‑cab trucks off the state contract for $53,009.19 each (total $161,757) on July 15. Councilmembers Ronald (Ron) moved the purchase and councilmember Doug seconded; the motion passed 4–1.
Public Works staff said the trucks will replace aging fleet vehicles and that older pickups are typically cascaded to other divisions (parts/maintenance) before surplus sale. Finance and fleet staff briefly reviewed the city’s inventory: Highland operates 41 vehicles and the oldest units listed were model years 1997, 1998 and 2002. Staff told council they plan a more structured replacement schedule in the future so the city can retire vehicles before they lose most of their resale value.
The council added a technical amendment: purchases to be made from the state cooperative contract. The motion passed with one dissenting vote.
