The council approved an interlocal agreement with Utah County to provide $1 million for road work at 10400 North/6000 West and reconstruction of 6800 West; council vote was unanimous 5–0.
The Highland City Council unanimously approved a resolution on July 15 accepting a $1 million interlocal transportation grant from Utah County intended to help fund roadway improvements near 10400 North and 6000 West and reconstruction work on 6800 West.
Chris Trusty, Highland City Engineer, told council the county funds can only be used for road improvements (curb, gutter, asphalt) and cannot pay for sidewalks; the city plans to combine the county allocation with money budgeted in Highland’s current fiscal plan to build curb, gutter and sidewalks where needed. Trusty said the county grant required no local match.
The funds were made available after state and county distribution of certain sales-tax dollars were adjusted; Trusty said county leaders redirected some monies that had been planned for regional transit in a later year back to local road projects in Utah County. The council voted 5–0 to pass the interlocal agreement.
Councilmember Scott moved for approval; the motion carried 5–0.
