County staff report Human Services third-floor repairs nearly complete; courthouse parking garage scheduled for phased renovation

County staff gave two facilities updates at the July 16 work session: an update on repairs at the Human Services Building third floor and a notice about a phased renovation of the courthouse-adjacent parking garage.

A county facilities representative said crews have repaired baseboards and applied one coat of paint to the third floor of the Human Services Building and expected to finish the remaining coat and drying so offices could reopen as soon as Monday. "They made progress. We found some code base and some baseboard that match pretty well for the existing stuff," the staff member said. The staff member said they would visit the site after the meeting to confirm progress.

On the parking garage, county legal/staff said the contractor will begin temporary shutdowns of various floors next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and that a permanent shutdown and more extensive renovation is planned for August. The county said employees will receive an email outlining the timeline and what to expect. Staff advised the board that work will be noisy and recommended notifying nearby residents; a draft neighbor letter is being prepared. The county specifically said it has notified Beaver Borough representatives.

Officials noted the timing is intended to avoid conflicts with the motor vehicle cruise scheduled on Aug. 2 but said the wine festival could be impacted depending on the renovation schedule. No formal action was taken; staff will distribute timing notices and a draft neighbor letter and coordinate alternative parking arrangements when the permanent shutdown begins.
