PCCS reviews custodial and grounds equipment purchases; tractors to return for final approval

District facilities staff presented two routine operations purchases at the July 15 board meeting: replacement custodial floor scrubbers and six John Deere lawn tractors with mower decks and snowplow attachments.
Floor scrubbers: Joe Minnick, chief finance and operations officer, said the custodial equipment replacement recommendation covers new floor scrubbers to be deployed at Plymouth High School, Pioneer Middle School and Discovery Middle School. The purchase would be procured through the OMNIA Cooperative and use available volume discounts and free freight; the total cost presented to the board was $46,837.50 and the funds were identified as coming from the 2025–26 custodial equipment budget. The item had been reviewed by the finance and operations committee on June 26.
John Deere tractors: Facilities manager Mr. Rice presented a first reading for purchase of six John Deere lawn tractors, each equipped with mower decks and snowplow attachments, to replace outdated equipment. The administration said usable parts from replaced units would be salvaged for future maintenance and remaining materials recycled. The tractors would support year-round grounds maintenance at six elementary schools (Field, Erickson, Farand, Espester, Smith and Tonda). Pricing presented: each tractor $7,746.24; each snowplow kit $1,297.46; total purchase price $54,262.14. Procurement would occur via Hudson through Michigan’s cooperative purchasing program, and funding would come from the 2025–26 maintenance equipment replacement budget. The tractors were presented as a first reading and will return to the board in August for final approval.
Board discussion and next steps: Board members asked compatibility and procurement questions. Mr. Rice and Mr. Minnick said the floor scrubbers are compatible with typical school flooring types with the appropriate pads and cleaning chemicals, and that the tractors would replace units at end of serviceable life. The scrubbers item was presented for approval; the tractors were a first reading and will be brought back at the August meeting for a final vote.
Funding and procurement: Both items were presented as following standard procurement processes (OMNIA cooperative for scrubbers; state cooperative for tractors) and each will draw on district equipment-replacement budgets for 2025–26.
