Show Low council approves preconstruction contract for sports and event center, not to exceed $4.01 million

The Show Low City Council voted unanimously to approve a preconstruction contract with Hayden Companies LLC for design‑build preconstruction services for a proposed Show Low Sports and Event Center.

City staff said the facility site is a 9‑acre parcel at Show Low Bluff and the preliminary scope calls for a multiuse building in the 90,000–115,000 square‑foot range. The building is planned for flexible layouts — six to eight basketball courts or an alternate 200‑by‑85‑foot multisport arena — with meeting rooms, food‑service space, locker rooms, ADA‑compliant restrooms, seating (fixed and/or retractable), acoustical treatments, scoreboards and audiovisual installations. The site plan includes grading, utilities and roughly 600 parking spaces.

City staff said the design‑build selection process was qualifications‑based under Arizona law. Nine statements of qualifications were received; a seven‑member committee short‑listed three firms and selected Hayden Companies LLC. The selection assumed an available construction budget of $35 million. The approved preconstruction contract covers programming, schematic design, design development and preparation of construction documents; a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for construction will be brought to council later for approval.

The council approved the preconstruction contract in a single vote. The approved not‑to‑exceed amount for preconstruction services is $4,008,654. City staff said the preconstruction phase will further define final square footage, seating counts and other amenities, and that public input and additional council review will be part of the preconstruction process.
