Council approves MOU to help form Oroville Area Fire Safe Council with Butte County Fire Safe Council

The Oroville City Council approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Butte County Fire Safe Council to support the formation of a community-led Oroville Area Fire Safe Council.
Councilmember Rain (presenter on the record) said the Butte County Fire Safe Council had presented to council previously and had helped educate the community on Firewise principles, defensible space and fuels reduction. The MOU would make Oroville a member of the countywide organization and provide support and technical assistance as a local area council is established.
Rain said Fire Safe Councils are predominantly community-run, provide education and training for home-hardening and defensible space, and help communities apply for grant funding when available. The presenter described the county organization as “well-oiled,” with staff resources to help launch an Oroville-area chapter.
