Council approves $8,000 change order for Rio Bella subdivision grading and swales

Valley Center’s City Council on July 18 approved Change Order No. 1 for the Rio Bella subdivision in the amount of $8,000 and authorized the mayor or city administrator to sign the change order.
City staff filling in for the project representative said the additional work was needed after recent light rains revealed adjustments required to ensure proper stormwater conveyance to the county ditch and river. The work involves additional grading and swales to direct flow to the intended drainage paths.
Staff said the cost will be spread over the special assessments for the development and that the city has no obligation for the drainage expense. Council voted to approve the change order unanimously.
Staff noted the subdivision is south of Ford/70th and east of West Street and that the project is progressing well overall.
