Atchison County commissioners approved two invoices tied to the Atchison Sports Complex batting-cage project.
The first payment approved was an invoice to Grand Slam Safety for a pole-supported batting cage in the amount of $13,389. The second approved payment was to S and M Construction for concrete work — a 50% upfront payment of $17,579. County staff said these payments will draw on a previously allocated $400,000 commitment for the project; after the Grand Slam Safety invoice the county’s remaining allotment was reported as $64,005.51 (as stated in the meeting record).
Commissioners moved and seconded both payments; each motion carried on unanimous voice votes recorded in the meeting as "aye." No commissioner requested additional delay for bids or further review.
Why it matters: the payments are part of a multi-year capital allocation for the sports complex and reduce the county’s available balance in that designated allotment.
Ending: County staff will process the payments to the vendors and update the project ledger to reflect the reduced remaining allotment.
