Commissioners approve Cintas agreement for jail cleaning supplies; certificate on China business pending

Kootenai County commissioners approved a rental and supply agreement with Cintas for cleaning chemicals and automatic dispensers in the county jail at their July 15 amended business meeting.

Captain Jeremy Howe of the sheriff's office told commissioners the agreement sets favorable rates for cleaning supplies and includes installation of dispensers to automatically fill and mix cleaning chemicals, which the sheriff's office expects will reduce waste and operating costs. "These are chemicals and supplies that we already purchased, but this is going to make us more efficient and, like I said, hopefully cut the cost so it will be at least budget neutral, but likely, savings in the budget for the jail," Captain Howe said.

County staff noted a required certificate prohibiting contracts with certain foreign entities (referenced in the transcript as "prohibiting contracts with China") still needed execution by the vendor. The transcript records county counsel and staff addressing that the vendor indicates it is an American company and that the certificate item would be addressed; the county expects to receive the completed certificate from the vendor.

The board moved to approve the Cintas contract with the sheriff's office; the clerk recorded the vote as passed.
