The Washington County Board of Education announced Wednesday that it will change the start time for its business meetings to 4 p.m., beginning with the board's August business meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025. The move follows a trial period that the board said was intended to reduce costs while keeping public comment accessible in the evening.
Board officials said the trial produced “really helpful feedback” from parents, staff and community members and that the schedule shift reflects that input. The board also said it will continue to hold public work sessions on the first Tuesday of each month beginning at 1 p.m.
Board members framed the change as both a cost-saving measure and an effort to keep meetings accessible to community members who attend in the evening or watch online. No change to the board's meeting locations or to other standing committee schedules was announced at the meeting.
The next regular business meeting is scheduled for Aug. 19, 2025, when the 4 p.m. start time will take effect.
