Board approves $115,000 renewal of 7 Mindsets social‑emotional curriculum, to be funded by per‑pupil mental‑health allocation

At the July 15 meeting the board approved a $115,000 annual renewal of the 7 Mindsets social‑emotional learning (SEL) resource for grades 6–8 and agreed to use the product’s embedded SEL screener districtwide (K–12) as the district discontinues the SABERS screener for budget reasons.
Missy Beavers presented the request and told the board the renewal had historically been paid for with a competitive state mental‑health grant that has since been converted to a per‑pupil allocation; she said the district will use that per‑pupil allocation to cover the renewal. Beavers said the resource aligns with state requirements that schools teach social‑emotional competencies.
A motion to approve the renewal passed on the consent/regular agenda after brief discussion; the meeting record shows the motion was made and seconded and the board voted in favor. Board members asked several clarifying budget questions and noted that prior implementations were supported by grant funding.
The district will proceed with contract renewal and implement the screener expansion in place of the SABERS instrument as part of curriculum and SEL supports for the coming school year.
