Town manager report: police school-supply drive, public-art bench, tours and Leadership Garner events announced

The town manager’s report covered community programs and upcoming events and asked council members to participate in several initiatives.
Assistant Town Manager John Hodges reviewed items in the manager packet: the Garner Police Department will accept school-supply donations through Aug. 1 to assist children affected by storms in western North Carolina; the public art committee has committed to purchase a Noble Winds bench to be painted by a local artist; and the town will host an economic-development tour for council on Thursday, July 24 from 8:30–10:30 a.m.
Hodges also described Leadership Garner Town Hall Day on Aug. 14 (a half-day session co-hosted with the Chamber of Commerce that will include a budgeting simulation) and the annual Impact Conference on Aug. 20 at the GPAC. Staff advertised monthly downtown walking tours and asked council members to coordinate attendance for several events with the deputy clerk.
Council members were encouraged to use the Garner Info app to report issues such as tall grass, trash and potholes; staff said many cases are addressed proactively before appearing in the app. Council members responded positively to the schedule of community events and several said they planned to attend.
No council action was requested; staff will continue outreach and finalize logistics for events listed.
