The Bettendorf City Council gave first reading to an ordinance amending Bettendorf City Code section 6-1-285 to add a school zone on Hopewell Avenue at its July 15 meeting.
Council member Palzinski introduced the ordinance at first reading. During discussion, Council member Adamson asked whether nearby Criswell Avenue would be addressed; Police Chief Scott said the school-zone signage at Hopewell is expected to address traffic where it stops at that intersection, and staff will reevaluate Criswell if pedestrian or traffic issues develop.
Palzinski moved approval of the ordinance at first reading; the council voted unanimously to approve the ordinance at first reading on a roll-call vote. Staff and the police department said they will monitor traffic after the zone is in place and consider further adjustments if needed.
