Staff explained the project’s history: an initial exterior/improvement scope designed with ARPA funds in 2022 was revised after staff recommended a broader approach that would avoid doing piecemeal improvements that would later be undone when the full renovation occurred. The planning effort will develop a comprehensive design (kitchen expansion, restroom upgrades, additional office space and capacity improvements) to make the facility grant‑ready. Staff said the full remodel is expected to be multimillion dollars once design and cost estimates are complete; council approved the $50,000 appropriation from existing park‑in‑lieu funds to pay for review and engineering work and emphasized staff will pursue state grant opportunities and later council authorization for construction funding.
Councilmembers asked for periodic updates on park projects and agreed staff should provide a follow‑up briefing to the Community Services Advisory Commission and council about timing, grant applications and the list of other parks projects in process.
