Two community nonprofit groups presented donations at the start of the meeting.
Sheila Crosby, deputy library director, introduced Taffy Cannon of the Friends of the Carlsbad Library, who presented a $100,000 donation to support library programming including the Carlsbad Reads Together program, summer reading and STEM/STEAM after-school offerings. Taffy Cannon described the Friends's long support for the library and noted the donation helps maintain materials budgets and program innovations.
Craddock Strops, cultural arts manager, introduced board members of the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts. Liz Lichtenberger, speaking for the group, presented a $25,000 donation that the board said supports concerts in the park, courtyard concerts and arts education programs. Both groups posed for a group photograph at the dais.
The donations were acknowledged by the mayor and council; no formal action beyond acceptance and photo was recorded in the meeting minutes.
