The City Commission approved a final payment of $8,750 to the San Benito Chamber of Commerce on July 15 to satisfy the city's membership and sponsorship agreement for the year.
Alma Flores, introduced at the meeting as the chamber’s new executive director, told commissioners the city had paid $8,007.50 in June and that the remaining balance covered the platinum membership and two event sponsorships (Casino Night and the Bike Tour). Flores said that those sponsorship elements were part of the membership and sponsorship agreement the chamber presented earlier.
Commissioners discussed prior conversations about closer working relationships and said they support finding ways to increase cooperation. A motion to approve the final payment passed on a voice vote with no recorded nays.
City staff acknowledged the city had previously budgeted sponsorship items differently and said staff would check on the status of any routine annual payments that had not yet been made.
