City manager updates council on road work, pollinator garden and pending zoning and billboard appeals

City Manager Paul Zalnick told the council on July 14 that contractors continue removal and replacement of concrete curbs, sidewalks and ramps in the Eagle Heights subdivision and that crews expect to install the first layer of asphalt during the week.
Zalnick also pointed to a pollinator garden on Myer Road located along a trail that has been blooming and noted the city's interest in environmental amenities. He said Oakland County staff had been invited to follow up on recommendations from a local study group and that the city was awaiting contact from the county to schedule that follow-up.
Zalnick briefed the council on two pending legal matters. First, an appeal of a zoning-board-of-appeals decision involving a grant-use variance for 440 South Lafayette is pending in Oakland County Circuit Court before Judge Cheryl Matthews. The city's brief on appeal is due July 22; the ZBA's brief is due Aug. 12. Second, the city filed a complaint in 52-1 District Court seeking removal of an Adams Outdoor billboard in McCaddy Park; Adams Outdoor has been served and its answer was due July 14.
Zalnick closed by noting the city continues to seek volunteers for Parks & Recreation, Cultural Arts, the DDA Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals and offered to answer council questions about any of the items.
