DDA director to leave; South Lyon prepares for summer events downtown

City officials told the council on July 14 that the downtown Development Authority director has submitted a resignation and will leave the city on Aug. 15.
City Manager Paul Zalnick reported that staff have been meeting with event organizers, public safety, and public works staff to coordinate downtown activities this summer. He said the city has been working with event organizers on a "Made in Michigan" event scheduled for August and noted an upcoming July car show and a "Christmas in July" celebration slated later in the month.
Zalnick said staff — including police, fire and DPW — have held planning meetings with the event organizers and contractors to ensure operations and public safety. He also offered to answer council questions about the DDA transition process and downtown activities.
Council members and staff praised recent park and event preparations; Council member Kurzweil later thanked city staff and contractors for improvements at Paul Baker Park ahead of the Made in Michigan event. The city also continues to seek volunteers for several boards, including Parks & Recreation, Cultural Arts, the DDA, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The council did not take formal action on the DDA director resignation at the meeting; staff said they would provide additional information to council as the transition proceeds.
