United Nations officials said attacks and harassment of Palestinians by settlers and by security forces in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have intensified in recent weeks and resulted in deaths.
The UN briefing called on Israel, as the occupying power, to take all feasible measures to ensure public order and safety in the West Bank and to carry out thorough, independent and transparent investigations into killings and alleged violations of international law.
The statement also urged an immediate halt to home demolitions and other actions that threaten civilians. The spokesperson reiterated that civilians must be protected under international humanitarian law.
