The South Lyon City Council on July 14 approved a revised contribution-for-medical-insurance-at-retirement policy that defines eligibility for a $500 monthly retiree health stipend for nonunion, noncontract employees, effective July 1, 2025.
Finance Director Patricia told the council the city will apply the policy in two phases: employees hired before July 1, 2025 would be grandfathered and eligible for the stipend at age 55 upon separation; employees hired on or after July 1, 2025 must be at least 55 and have 15 years of city service to qualify. The stipend also would be available to employees determined permanently disabled by the city's workers' compensation insurer (currently Meadowbrook).
