Division staff presented the annual update to the Phoenix Athletic Handbook, which reflects changes made by the Virginia High School League and input from principals, coaches and parents.
The presenter said the handbook incorporates VHSL rules, Piedmont District and Southside Bell School Conference information, and guidance from athletic directors and coaches. Updates cover eligibility, heat-index-related protocols, lettering, equipment, communication, and other operations that govern middle- and high-school athletics. The presenter said the handbook had been upgraded and described it as one of the most comprehensive in the region.
The handbook was presented as a first reading; the board was told it will be voted on at next month’s meeting. No vote was taken at this meeting.
