La Crosse Elementary Principal Connie Puckett presented the school's instructional update, summarizing staffing, enrollment and recent academic and extracurricular activities.
Puckett told the board the school currently has approximately 350 students enrolled, with about 174 boys and 176 girls. She said the school has 19 general-education teachers, six special-education teachers, four resource teachers, and a roster that includes music, library and PE instructors; 14 instructional assistants; four custodians; four cafeteria workers; a school nurse; two secretaries; an assistant principal; and additional specialists including a behavioral intervention teacher and reading specialist. Puckett said roughly 40 Hispanic students are enrolled and about 27 students are designated as English learners based on the WIDA assessment.
Puckett described literacy and cultural-awareness activities during the year, including book distributions supported by local funding, classroom reading events (some via Google Meet), Read Across America programs, a student-designed yearbook cover, field-day events split by grade levels, and community service efforts such as assembling 400 blessing bags delivered to local nursing homes. She recognized the school's teacher of the year, Ms. James, and noted other projects including butterfly-release kits and an elementary trip to Jamestown.
The board received the update during the superintendent's reports and offered thanks to staff; there was no separate board action tied to this instructional update.
